Warning! Spoilers ahead!
On September 27th 2019, Sony and Disney announced the plan to release the third instalment of the famed Spiderman series (starring Tom Holland), called ‘No Way Home’. In total, there are 8 Spiderman movies including No Way Home, the first three starring Tobey Maguire and the following two, Andrew Garfield. The most recent three starred Tom Holland and his movies proved to be a big hit at the box-offices. Now, let’s talk about the latest addition and the details of the movie production!
No Way Home (2021) was directed by Jon Watts, who is known to have directed ‘Spiderman: Homecoming’ and ‘Spiderman: Far From Home’. This highly anticipated movie stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch and includes guest appearances made by Willem Defoe, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire. As many keen fans have guessed, this means that the three Spidermen come together in the film to fight their infamous rivals. From this, we can finally confirm that the multiverse is real and draw a connection between this movie and Marvel’s next release, ‘Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness’.
‘No Way Home’ has cemented several box office benchmarks over the course of its big screen run. During the opening weekend alone, the film landed the second-biggest domestic debut in history with $260 million and the third-largest global start ever with $600 million.
The plot of the film was the most depressing of all three in the franchise. Each Spiderman in the movie is dealing with personal losses and finding solace in each other. This is especially apparent in Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, who is not only dealing with the loss of his father figure, Tony Stark but is also under a lot of pressure from the media, after his identity was revealed by Mysterio. With so much going on, the final blow — the death of Aunt May — came as a complete shock to audience members. Though it was something we should have seen coming given that Toby Maguire’s Spiderman lost his Uncle Ben and Andrew Garfield’s lost his girlfriend Gwen Stacy.
Though the movie ended on a sad note, it goes without saying that it had its good moments too. We could finally see MJ and Peter Parker finally embrace their relationship and even better, see the three Spidermen of three generations finally come together like long lost brothers. So, as much sadness as we experienced during the movies, we could finally see some of our dreams come to life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
So for those who haven’t watched the movie, make sure to go and check it out at theatres while it's still showing, it is definitely worth it! And if you are lucky enough, you might catch a glimpse of the trailer for Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness, the next upcoming movie of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe which holds just as many Easter eggs as No Way Home!
